Synopsis
When Claire discovers her partner Maggie sleepwalking and acting strangely, she learns Maggie secretly joined an experimental sickle cell treatment program. What was meant to be a cure is now spreading through Maggie’s body like a mechanical infection. Their call for help is met by armed agents who arrive, not to save Maggie but take her by force. As Maggie defends herself, Claire has the terrifying realization… the line between Maggie and the technology inside her is starting to erode.

Gavin Hignight is a director/writer/producer for film, television, comic books and video games. He also works as an animation producer and toy manufacturer.
Gavin directed and produced the music videos NIGHT and UTOPIAN FACADE for film legend John Carpenter. His writing/producing credits include the upcoming sci-fi horror feature film UNKNOWN COMPANY, Netflix’ GUNDAM: Requiem For Vengeance (which placed #7 in Netflix Top Ten Viewership Worldwide), Transformers: War For Cybertron, TEKKEN:Bloodline, Star Wars: Resistance and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012). He’s also written the Marvel animated series Marvel’s Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, and Iron Man: Armored Adventures.
His recent short film NANOcell placed in The 2026 Chattanooga Film Festival, 2026 FilmQuest Film Festival and is currently in development as a feature film.
In publishing, Gavin has written and created the graphic novels Motor City, The Concrete World and the YA novel The Freak Table. His most recent work in comic books is for Z2 Publishing.

NANOcell is a film about agency, over our bodies, our relationships, and our futures. Maggie is not a traditional sci-fi protagonist; she’s a working artist navigating chronic illness, financial instability, and love in a world that constantly demands more than it gives. Maggie is a person negotiating illness in a world that reduces her to risk factors, billing codes, and eligibility.
