Synopsis
Mart appears to have the perfect life: a loving wife, a beautiful home in a good neighborhood, and a baby on the way. Yet, he feels unfulfilled. For as long as he can remember, he has been tormented by an overwhelming urge to kill. One he has managed to suppress until now. His self-control is pushed to the limit when he stumbles upon his neighbor’s failed suicide attempt. Unable to resist his dark obsession, he drags the barely conscious man up to his attic, where he faces an impossible choice: give in to his long-repressed urges or continue a life of restraint.
As the pressure mounts, Mart’s situation grows even more dangerous—especially when he realizes that just downstairs, his wife is leading the village-wide search for the missing neighbor.

In 2025, he graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy with this dark comedy that once again displays his signature: finding humanity in the most bizarre situations, with a sharp edge and plenty of humor. With this film, he aimed to show how society can put people in a straightjacket, preventing them from truly choosing for themselves, and ultimately from ever becoming genuinely happy. Read less
I always tell people my favorite movie about dark taboo desires is Happiness by Todd Solondz. Then I have to quickly add a five-minute disclaimer explaining that I don't actually share those specific desires, just so they don't slowly back out of the room.
