Originally from Miami, Florida, Erika moved to New York City at a young age to study Meisner technique at the William Esper Studio. While in New York, she also obtained a Masters of Psychology from Hunter College, doing her thesis on the effect of self-compassion on stress in expressive writing and working as a research assistant at the Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training. Somewhere along the way, she started writing her own screenplays, which often explore feminism through the lens of creativity, motherhood, and domesticity. She brings her experience as a first generation American to every project and is passionate about expanding the conversation around multicultural identity. In addition to writing and directing, Erika is also an actor and has appeared on television shows such as THE BLACKLIST, TEENAGE BOUNTY HUNTERS, STRANGER THINGS, and LIFE & BETH. She had a pivotal role in the feature film THE BURIAL opposite Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023. Upcoming appearances include Amazon’s SCARPETTA and ABC’s WILL TRENT. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, two children, and their guinea pig, Glitter Star. Read less
